Happy New years and all the rest. Sorry I have been a bit quiet for the past few weeks. Holiday tends to do that to you. It’s good to be back and I have SO MUCH to tell you all. Many new and exciting things happening in 2014. Gosh I can hardly wait to give you all the details. BUT FIRST. The biggest news.
WE ARE ENGAGED!
7 years together. One for every bag of salt (as the proverb says) and Oscar decided to listen to Beyonce and “put a ring on it”. I would say we couldn’t be happier but it would kind of sad if I had to be engaged to be happy and in love with Oscar. It kinda just happens with him.
But it was pretty damn awesome. A very romantic day planned (but executed by Anje & Ryan) by a slightly unromantic guy. (I once said he never gives me flowers…the next day he gave me a pot plant.)
It all started on December the 22nd when I got a text from Anje saying Oscar has to go play pool with Ryan because she is busy and he is bored. I was annoyed. It was a Sunday and we kind of had plans but ok whatever. Parked outside of my sister’s house, sitting in the car, I picked a fight. I’m such a girl. I did the whole “spend time with meeeeeeeeeeee” bullshit. I blame PMS. Oscar said “seriously?” I admitted I was being an idiot and he went on his play date while I hung out with my sister. (Who was in on the whole thing)
Oscar returned later the afternoon and we played board-games like we do most nights while on holiday.
Next morning, on the 23rd of December, Oscar suggested we go for a picnick and asked me where I wanted to go. I chose Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. It’s gorgeous and I haven’t been there in many moons. While painting my face that morning my mum was telling me to go look at Lady Anne’s bird bath. Apparently a pretty bird bath in the middle of the gardens. I actually complained to my mother saying I don’t REALLY feel like going to the city, maybe we should find a closer spot. She gave one wave of her hand simply told me to stop being silly and go enjoy my day with Oscar. (mean while she knew what he had planned) Hopped in the car and off we went.
Got there and I offered to pay entrance. (I not only chose the location but I paid entrance as well)
I bought a little map and started looking for a rout to the bird bath. Eventually I put away the map and we just walked. It really is a perfect place. So green and lush. We approached a clearing with a patch of lawn and I saw a picnic set up. I think I even made a remark on how cool it looked. Ribbons hanging from the tree and light pink roses with scatter cushions everywhere.
I nudged Oscar and said “lets go steal their food” LOL I am SO mature. Oscar said “Sure” and grabbed m hand and dragged me closer. I dug my heals into the ground with a little yell “Are you friggen nuts? NO.” By now I could see there was a sign up. It read “I wanna wake up where you are”. A line from my favourite song. Slide by Goo Goo Dolls. Oscar played it 4 times on the drive over. Every version of the song I own.
I clicked the picnic was for us but was baffled as to how he managed to get it there? Bubbly and fresh yummy woollies goodies.
I turned around and he was on both knees. He said the next line of the song. “Do you wanna get married or run away”
The little black velvet box was flipped open to reveal the MOST beautiful ring I have ever seen.
I said yes. Duh. Wouldn’t you? I mean look at him.
A VERY big thank you to my best friend in the universe for helping to pull this off. You are awesome. I love you guys.
