Too busy to travel

Things get busy, you know? the past few months have been up and down in all sorts of ways. Up’s in moods, laughter, new challenges, and planes. Downs in health, workload, family things (who doesn’t have a family crazy enough to write a book about) and most importantly, a lack of adventures.

But I am the average traveller, and who has time (and money) to travel ALL THE TIME? I sure don’t.

Some nights I scroll through travel bloggers perfectly curated Instagram feeds. A new location every week. A new luxury hotel and exotic hike. There is a tinge of envy, I will admit. But then I look at them living out of suitcases and I keep wondering “when do you have time to do laundry”. then I snuggle my cat and cuddle up on my couch and I am perfectly happy to be home.

I have been too busy to travel and that is okay.

It’s okay to let your blog chill a bit while you catch up on life. My site won’t go anywhere and when I do post the regular readers will be back. For the last few weeks I have had to use my energy wisely, as there is much less of it these days. Work and home came first. My people came first.

As a blogger, I read several blogs and of course, I favour travel related blogs. I need to sleep on the couch as I watch other travel writers jet off to interesting places and I will be first to admit that for a while this got me down. I do not envy others travelling. In fact, nothing makes me happier. I just felt left out because I have been unable to join in on the fun. I love fun and adventure and watching it pass me by was difficult.

But I am average after all. I have some very average things coming up that I can’t wait to share with you. I might not be able to travel very far at the moment but I have decided to have fun right here on my doorstep. Get ready for stories about forcing my friends to learn how to fly fish, my top travel hacks for booking accommodation (and almost always get it at a better price), exploring local weird museums and why you need to book restaurants for Monday evenings.

Adventures don’t have to be curated, candid fun is just what the doctor ordered.

I rewrote a paragraph – no, there weren’t any grammar issues. “Some nights I scroll through travel bloggers perfectly curated Instagram feeds. A new location every week. A new luxury hotel and exotic hike…. A new pair of high heels on a cobblestone road or beach. There is a tinge of envy, I will admit. But then I wonder, have we all lost our damn minds!?
