Milkshakes with Mum
My mum has visited me twice in the nine years I have lived in Joburg. Visiting is not always as easy as getting on a plane, you know?
But a few weeks back I insisted on having her over during her school holidays and it was glorious having her here. I got to take her to lunch and show her around (she hasn’t been in JHB since she lived here in the early 80’s) There is something special about being able to do things for your mum. I get immense joy from bringing her tea at night while we watch television and Google our Hugenoot family.
Mum being the ever green-fingered gardener I thought she might enjoy Jasmyns in Harties. Lush green gardens surrounding an old wind mill. The inside is the most wonderful fresh food market with loads of imported Dutch goodies, as the theme is Dutch – South African.
There are two restaurants on the premises. We opted for milkshakes (an old Coetzee tradition in school holidays) and then took a walk around for mum to enjoy the gardens.
Jasmysn is such a relaxing afternoon out. You simply must drop in when you pass it on the way to the dam wall. (Its hard to miss, its a giant windmill)
Have a milkshake, eat a stoopwafel and buy some of the best fresh produce around to take home.
