We have been meaning to take a drive to Parys for months now. But you know. Life, busy, people.
The long weekend was the perfect opportunity and grabbed it with both hands.
The town is quaint and lovely and you can read all about it on my tiny towns post about it here.
We skipped breakfast and arrived in time for a late lunch. After parking in the main road we strolled up and down looking for food. Hoi Polloi was the pick of the day. It is situated in the center of the main road and has that real small town antique-y charm. You know the type. Mismatched chairs. Large wooden tables. It had a lovely interior and the hostess was polite and helpful.
Their drinks menu is impressively large with more craft brews to choose from than any place I have been to in JHB or Cape Town. (or anywhere for that matter)
Food fairly priced. But Sad to report the Wagyu burger had no hint of Wagyu. It wasn’t the perfect medium we ordered either. It was served with a blue cheese and onion sauce. I was expecting a rich and creamy blue cheese sauce. Instead it was a little odd bowl of watery banana tasting brown sauce.
It was a burger. Not the worst I have had but not the best by a long shot. Pity. As the place really had a nice charm to it.
They partially redeemed themselves with a trio of sugar cone ice-creams for dessert.
I would suggest dropping in for a good beer or cup of fresh coffee and a slice of cake or freshly baked pie. The friendly staff makes up for the rest.
